Submit science communication articles for free throughout 2014!
Submit your science communication articles (i.e. articles discussing the methodology of communicating science) to F1000Research in 2014 and there will be no article processing charges for publication.
It’s really important that science communication and peer review are evidence-based but, ironically, it can be hard to publish this sort of research in traditional journals. F1000Research’s initiative to offer free, open access publication for papers on this theme in 2014 is therefore very welcome.

With the age of the internet and the proliferation of new technologies, the way we practice, implement and record science is evolving. With this shift comes an increasing responsibility to communicate new ideas and inform others about any new advances.

Launched in 2013 as a journal for the life sciences, F1000Research has recently added a Science Communication category, and welcomes your papers about science education, all aspects around publishing, open data, science policy, social media, and other areas of communication relevant to science. To mark the launch of this new section of the journal, there will be no article processing charge for science communication papers submitted in 2014.

F1000Research accepts many article types in addition to traditional research papers, such as commentaries, reviews, opinion pieces, and software and data articles. All articles are fully Open Access, and our transparent invited post-publication peer review model allows readers to see the full rigorous peer review process. All our research papers also include any data supporting the results and conclusions.

I am quite optimistic about [F1000Research’s] peer-review approach, because it is more similar to how we practice science.
