Maximising the 3Rs impact of NC3Rs-funded research

This gateway provides a place for researchers funded by the NC3Rs to promote the 3Rs impact of their work, and publish rapidly, in an open and transparent manner.

The objective of the gateway is to raise awareness of new 3Rs approaches and increase confidence in their capability. The 3Rs are embedded in the peer review process; each article benefits from peer review by an invited 3Rs expert and all reviewers are asked to assess whether the 3Rs implications of the work are accurately described. This process ensures that the quality and impact of NC3Rs-funded research is clearly visible and highlights how these models and technologies can be used to improve scientific outcomes as well as reducing animal use, or minimising animal suffering.

This gateway publishes the latest developments in 3Rs research; it is a unique resource for funders, regulators and scientists from a range of disciplines. The publication of methodological and technical details, performance characteristics and validation against gold standard models enables peers and collaborators to consider how a novel approach might be adopted in their lab. This will facilitate the uptake of models with reduced reliance on animal use and bridge the gap between the development of 3Rs technologies and approaches and their adoption into routine use.
