About this Collection

Neural and mesodermal progenitor cells diverge from a common progenitor early in development, but they do not develop in isolation of each other; the fate of neural progenitors is influenced by signals produced by mesodermal progenitors and vice-versa.

Articles in this collection will cover aspects on the generation of these tissues and later interactions between neural (CNS or PNS) and mesodermal progenitors in patterning body plans and specific body systems in vertebrate embryos. This includes, but is not limited to, interactions affecting the formation of body axes, of the neural tube, the ontogeny of the neural crest, and gut development.
