There has been an exponential increase in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent decades, further emphasising that the concept of AI and relevant techniques are no longer limited to theory, but are instead entering the stage of practical applications. AI technology aims to give machines intelligence like that displayed by animals and humans, including reactive behaviours, intelligent decision-making, neural networks and even consciousness. Accordingly, substantial AI techniques have been developed, including reactive systems, decision-support systems, expert systems for artificial neural networks, intelligent agents, and evolutionary computing. The applications of AI are present in nearly every aspect of human society, such as farming, manufacturing, business, travel, healthcare, telecommunications, social media, education, gaming, and so on. Many applications of AI have been seamlessly integrated into our daily lives, and most of the time without our notice. Typical examples include search engines on the internet, face ID, and digital voice assistants. However, there is still a long way to go regarding AI techniques and their ability to solve more complex real-world problems, as the application of AI faces consistent, real-world challenges technically, socially, and ethically.
This collection will provide an open forum for researchers and practitioners to share their original contributions on the application of AI in the real world. The primary focus will be on the development of novel or existing AI models and the conditions or requirements that are needed to apply them in real life situations: successes or failures, assistances or obstacles experienced regarding the applications of AI, and any other possible future implications. The valuable experience obtained from these will be vital in developing constructive future directions for the further use of AI in our lives and will help promote more successful AI applications.
