Climate change has significant impacts on social and environmental determinants of health. Direct effects include an increase in weather extremes such as heatwaves and floods and their subsequent impact on population health. Indirect effects can be multifaceted, warmer temperatures favour the spread of important vector-borne and water-borne diseases. Incidences of death and illness is already increasing due to frequent extreme weather events, such as heatwaves and floods, increases in zoonoses and food, water and vector borne diseases.
This collection aims to highlight the effects of climate change on infectious climate-sensitive diseases. Articles may focus on the impact of climate change on infectious disease epidemiology, public health interventions, preparedness, disease prevention, interactions between climate and non-climatic drivers and the spread of important zoonosis. The secondary effects of climate on disease dynamics.
Keywords: Climate change; global warming; vector-borne diseases; water-borne diseases; soil-borne diseases; food-borne diseases; public health; zoonosis.
