As the global population increases and climate change accelerates, pressures on existing food systems will only grow, resulting in unequal food distribution, shortages, supply chain disruptions and, more seriously, malnutrition, hunger and related diseases. Interruptions to food supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic have only underscored the fragility of some of our current systems. Governments, local NGOs and international bodies like the United Nations and World Health Organization are all striving to build policy frameworks that will support secure, resilient, sustainable and inclusive food systems.
Research into all areas of our food production, distribution and consumption is critical to improving global food policies. By suggesting and testing innovative approaches and by analyzing historic and emerging developments, scholars can help policy makers create data-driven, actionable and impactful policy initiatives that ensure the security, resilience and sustainability of our food systems. The collection welcomes scholarship that will inform and assess food policy around the world.
