Independent games have grown to become a key part of the video game industry, with the most popular indie titles rivaling those of AAA studios in both quality and popularity. In addition, many indie designers leverage their creative freedom to experiment with unique and different styles of gameplay, narrative, and presentation. However, they must often work with small teams, low budgets, and alternate funding models in order to bring their projects to completion. Distribution and marketing also provide unique challenges for independent studios.
