An open and cross-disciplinary approach to meeting the key challenges of energy provision

The generation, storage, distribution and management of energy is essential to the basic functioning of modern society, however, there are an increasing number of challenges in ensuring its sustainable, fair and equitable provision. Major issues include reducing reliance on fossil fuels, meeting increases in demand, and modelling the transition to renewable sources, in addition to addressing long-standing problems of injustice. Meeting these sizable challenges requires an open and cross-disciplinary approach from stakeholders across academia, industry and policy. Ensuring data, methods, applications and knowledge are made as accessible as possible will increasingly become a critical part of finding the solutions we are collectively striving for.

The Energy gateway provides researchers and policymakers with a dedicated publishing venue to openly disseminate research relating to all aspects of energy research. The scope of the gateway includes, but is not limited to:

  • Bioenergy and biofuels
  • Solar, wind, wave, and tidal energy
  • Geothermal energy
  • Hydrogen energy
  • Nuclear energy
  • Energy materials
  • Energy storage
  • Energy efficiency and conservation
  • Carbon capture and storage
  • Fuel cells
  • Batteries
  • Energy transition
  • Electrical power and energy systems
  • Energy systems modelling
  • Energy forecasting
  • Energy grids
  • Urban and rural infrastructure

Submission and publication process

The range of article types offered by F1000Research facilitates the dissemination of work as openly and quickly as possible through Data Notes, Policy Briefs, Methods, and Software Tools, as well as traditional Research and Review articles. Through this approach, the Energy gateway will look to reduce barriers to collaborative research practices and ensure authors receive credit for their full range of work. Each publication will undergo fully transparent post-publication peer review following the F1000Research publication model. Before submitting, please read our data guidelines and information regarding our article processing charges.

The Energy gateway welcomes all articles relating to the areas listed above, as well as interdisciplinary research relating to these topics.
