About this Collection
This collection is now closed to submissions.

Digitalisation of energy systems is expected to help integrate the growing share of renewable energy by unlocking flexibility from demand and distributed energy resources. Doing so will impact the whole system from large-scale electricity generation through transportation, heat and electricity networks (and markets), and other non-energy sectors, to individual consumers and distributed renewables and storage. Operation of the digitalised energy system is underpinned by access to data: the status of networks and assets, actual and planned supply and demand, procurement and activation of flexibility.

However, data is often owned by one party and not shared with others due to privacy concerns, commercial sensitivity, or simply a lack of incentive. Solutions are required to enable and stimulate data sharing and interoperability in energy systems to realise the value of digitalisation. This collection invites submissions addressing these challenges, including applications of distributed, federated, and collaborative learning in energy systems, and incentive mechanisms such as data markets and data spaces.

Keywords: Digitalisation; federated learning; distributed learning; privacy; data markets; data spaces

This Collection is associated with the Research on Research, Policy & Culture and Energy Gateways.

This collection, running concurrently on F1000Research and Open Research Europe, aims to provide researchers with a space to openly disseminate work within the area of data sharing in future energy systems. Researchers have the choice of publishing on the F1000Research platform or on our partner platform, Open Research Europe, which is available to Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe beneficiaries. Information on article processing charges (APCs) for publishing in F1000Research can be found here; for authors publishing in Open Research Europe all APCs are covered centrally by the European Commission.
