About this Gateway
Scope
As interest and developments in the field of Bioinformatics continue to grow, F1000Research is launching the Bioinformatics Gateway to enable researchers to openly publish, access and learn about the computational tools being produced globally to help better analyse and interpret biological data.

In order to facilitate this process, the Bioinformatics Gateway will make use of the expansive range of article types on the platform which will help to disseminate knowledge within the subject, and encourages researchers to publish outputs related to the following areas:
  • Methods and Tools
  • Genetics and Genomics
  • Proteomics
  • Metagenomics
  • Transcriptomics
  • Phylogenetics
  • Metabolomics
  • Systems Biology
  • Structural Bioinformatics
  • Pathway Analysis
This Gateway allows submission of bioinformatics research in a number of different article formats, including Software Tools, Method Articles and Data Notes. We also accept non-peer reviewed formats such as Documents, Posters and Slides. These formats provide early visibility of developing knowledge, and enables researchers to store and access valuable information.

ISCB
The Bioinformatics Gateway is affiliated with the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) which is a global society advocating for and advancing scholarship, research, training, outreach, and inclusive community building in computational biology and its professions.

Join ISCB to propel your computational biology journey and save with F1000Research! Network with global experts, access exclusive resources, receive publication discounts (10% discount on F1000Research APCs), and attend discounted conferences and events. Benefit from educational initiatives, awards, and advocacy efforts supporting the field. Engage in a vibrant community, stay updated on advancements, and seize professional development opportunities. ISCB – where collaboration, knowledge, and innovation thrive!

More information regarding ISCB MembershipConferences or Communities of Special Interest (COSI) can be found by visiting the ISCB website.

Eligibility
Submission is open to all researchers involved in the field of Bioinformatics.

Gateway Areas
The Methods and Tools Gateway Area will allow researchers to publish outputs concerning both the application and research into the use of various computational methods to analyse quantities of biological data for a range of different results, including predictions and discoveries.
The Genetics & Genomics Gateway Area will enable researchers to publish content related to the analysis, storage and accessibility of DNA, RNA and protein sequences. This analysis can be conducted in a variety of ways, including comparison of sequences and relationships, identification of functions, and recognition of patterns across the samples.
By curating all outputs related to the analysis of the RNA transcripts produced by a genotype, the Transcriptomics Gateway Area will allow readers to easily access content pertinent to this research.
The Proteomics Gateway Area has been established to allow authors to access and publish research content related to the large-scale study of entire sets of proteins as proteomes.
This Gateway Area will allow members of the bioinformatics community to collate all research related to the collection of genomes from an environmental sample.
The Metabolomics Gateway Area provides a location for all research related to the large-scale study of metabolites within cells and organisms, particularly with an emphasis on the chemical processes involving these molecules.
The Phylogenetics Gateway Area will present researchers with the opportunity to locate outputs related to the evolutionary relationship between species, genes or organisms, among other entities.
The Systems Biology Gateway Area acts as a hub for the bioinformatics community to publish their outputs which has been produced using expansive data and computational and mathematical methodology and analysis to develop a holistic approach towards biological mechanisms. We encourage submitters to publish a plethora of content related to both technological advances in the field, and how these developments impact the wider bioinformatics community.
This Gateway Area provides researchers with the opportunity to collate all relevant content related to the analysis and modelling of molecules to determine their role and function within a cell.
The Pathway Analysis Gateway Area allows for researchers to locate and publish curated content related to this topic, in the use of tools to identify relationships using high-throughput datasets.
The ISCB Gateway Area reflects the support of the ISCB for the Bioinformatics Gateway and will provide a venue for publication for all content presented at ISCB-related events, including the ISMB & ECCB annual conference, Student Council events, and COSIs, with publishable outputs ranging from slides, documents and posters to research requiring expert peer-review.
