About this Collection
Frequently changing global climatic conditions coupled with extreme weather events like extreme drought, high temperature, heat waves and long exposure to flood or submergence pose serious threat to global crop production, specifically in largely populated countries with low-income status. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) also pointed out that climate change will bring economy-wide repercussions, if not mitigated timely. Therefore, identification of climate-resilient crops or development of such crop varieties with biotic and abiotic stress tolerance using biotechnological approaches is priority to ensure the global food security by maintaining or increasing crop production under challenging environmental conditions. Modern biotechnological interventions (gene and genome editing), molecular/speed breeding and beneficial microbial associations are crucial to maintain or increase the crop yield. This collection invites submissions across a wide range of article types including original research articles, mini review and review articles, brief reports, and opinion articles.

Keywords: Climate-resilient crops; Genetic engineering; CRISPR-Cas 9; -omics approaches; lncRNAs; Plant-microbe interactions; Sustainable agriculture; Transcription factors; Transgenic crops; Food security
